Beast, the band, the bomb!

I wrote about this band some time ago, but felt compelled to revisit them recently. By no means a music expert (I have friends who excel in this area), but they just excite me every time I listen to them.

No great wisdom here (yes, I hear the snickers), but these guys - really a man and a woman - play music that is like little else I have heard. Fuzzy bass and Parliament Funkadelic beats...

Oh, just listen to them dang it!

Bob talks music (for a moment)

Ignoring first just how woefully long it has been since there has been a new post here, I felt an almost adolescent need to post something about a new band I have discovered.

I will admit to being a bit narrow in my musical tastes. I was a teen at a time when Classic Rock was just Rock - and I pretty much hated it then.  Richmond radio has long been a sad, anemic affair; too lean on variety or depth. The music of the 80's seemed like such a fresh respite at the time, and much of it still works for me today. Though, some of my interests at those times are shameful to me now (Thompson Twins, really?).

To the point then - because nothing is more fascinating to read about than the interests of a faceless blogger - a band I feel I must highlight in any way possible.

I came across Beast on XM radio (a godsend here in Central Virginia), and downloaded the album on a whim. I have since learned they are from Montreal, which means they are kind of French - which I did not hold against them.

They will not be to everyone's taste of course, there is some hip/hop stuff going on, which is not generally to my taste. However, there is funk, and fuzzy bass, and a powerful, quirky voice that makes my wish this could be the soundtrack to everyday life.

If you don't like it that is fine too of course. The world needs squares as well....
